Good News for People Struggling with Drug Addiction

Drug addiction currently affects more than 22 million people in the United States. In Louisiana alone more than 3% of the population have reported use of an illicit drug over a one month period. This is according to the White House Drug Policy who also reports that the majority of drug abusers in the state have reported needing but not receiving drug treatment in Louisiana.

Narconon Louisiana, a non-profit drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility opened its doors in 2006 as a resource for locals struggling with addiction. In an area that had seen some of the worst devastation in years after Hurricane Katrina, there was no real solution in place for drug use in the state. After four years in operation, over 150 graduates, Narconon Louisiana has maintained that the people of Louisiana do not have to suffer from addiction without a real solution for permanent recovery.

The first part of the Narconon drug rehab program is the New Life Detoxification program. This is the part of the Narconon program where clients are able to rid their bodies of the harmful drug residues that store in the fatty tissues. It has been found that these residues can stay in the body years after consumption, occasionally dislodging from the fatty tissue, causing cravings which then lead to relapse.

The second part of the Narconon program subscribes to the idea that addiction is not a disease, but instead, works on isolating the underlying mental and emotional issues that caused the individual to start using drugs in the first place. Once these issues are fully handled the addict is able to fully recover from drug and/or alcohol addiction.

Jeff Lukas, Executive Director of Narconon Louisiana explains “An individual will turn to drugs in an effort to solve a problem. Some people don’t feel comfortable in life and that is a problem for them, others will start using drugs to handle a physical pain, while others turn to drugs to handle emotional pain. The point is that everyone has a different reason for choosing drugs.”

Mr. Lukas adds that the one thing that they all share in common is that the drugs offer a solution to the problem, and until those problems are exposed and the individual is able to handle them, they will continue to turn to drugs and/or alcohol abuse.

Drug Use In Prison Should Be Handled With Effective Drug Rehab

The prison system in America can be a touchy subject. Some people believe in it, and some people do not. One thing is clear – the prison system as we know it, does not handle drug abuse problems, in fact it can breed drug abuse with a large percentage of inmates incarcerated for drug-related crimes and often-times using while in prison.

Drugs like marijuana, cocaine and heroin filter through the prison walls so easily that prison officials have a hard time keeping up, In addition to the constant demand for drugs by inmates, some prison workers are getting into the drug game, smuggling in illegal drugs in exchange for payoffs. And even the smaller percentage of inmates that don’t go to prison addicted to drugs or alcohol, can leave with pretty heavy drug habits.

Due to the alarming numbers of prisoners using and becoming addicted to drugs, it is clear that drug and alcohol rehab is a better solution for offenders. Narconon Louisiana is a non-profit drug rehab that allows the individual to safely get off drugs and stay off drugs permanently. Drugs and Promiscuity Contribute to Declining Morals in Society

While the amount of people addicted to drugs and alcohol is increasing it’s not surprising that the moral standards of society have suffered.

The connection between drug and alcohol abuse and promiscuity is nothing new. In fact, according to a recent study, researchers at Columbia University have made a connection between illegal drug use and promiscuity. Although this may not come as a surprise to most, what is alarming is that teens who are 14 years or younger that use alcohol are twice as likely to have sex than those who aren’t drinking.

Most people regard promiscuity as an unfortunate side effect of drug and alcohol abuse. Narconon Louisiana Makes Significant Gains In The War On Drugs

2009 was definitely a year impacted by the horrifying side effects of illegal drugs. The reach of drugs and alcohol have spread from the silver screen with deaths like Michael Jackson and Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein to our own homes where approximately 300,000 people died from illegal drugs this year. A Life of Excess Can Lead to Drug and Alcohol Addiction

James*, a former drug addict, knows exactly what it feels like when your life is spinning out of control. “A year ago I was at my worse. I had no control; every day was spent looking for my next shot of heroin and if I came across another type of drug I would use it immediately.” This type of out of control behavior is what led James to enroll in a drug rehab program called Narconon Louisiana. “It was there, during The Way to Happiness course, that I realized that doing things to excess was what led me down the road of addiction,” explains James, shortly after graduating. Feelings Of Guilt Overwhelm Addicts During Holiday Season

Addiction is a long, hard road to travel both for the addict and their loved ones, especially during the holiday season. Anyone familiar with addiction knows that recovery is met with several different barriers along the way.
