Medical Marijuana Can Open Door For Addicts

In 2000, Colorado voters legalized medical marijuana as an attempt to capitalize on an untapped market. Unfortunately this will ultimately cause more people to become addicted to marijuana and eventually end up in drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities.

There are several loopholes in the law that was made even looser in 2007 when the courts lifted the five person limit medical marijuana dispensaries could service. The biggest loophole is that it only requires one visit to the doctor and one recommendation from him or her to be able to apply for a medical marijuana card. It is clear that along with medical marijuana dispensaries come added funds to the local economy because growers have to buy land, rent warehouses and hire employees – but to what cost? According to a recent study, Americans are four times more likely to use cocaine, than any other country. In addition, the average age of first marijuana use is 14 and alcohol use can start before age 12. And the Drug Enforcement Administration reports that most illegal drugs are smuggled into the United States from out of the country with one main source coming up recently – Mexico.

President Obama is encouraging Americans to focus on drug education and rehabilitation. Although most people don’t believe that there are a lot of withdrawal symptoms from cocaine, users will experience exhaustion, depression, lack of appetite, cravings, and intense anxiety.

According to a new survey, the U.S. leads over 40 other nations in illegal drug use. Drugs like cocaine, alcohol, and marijuana are among the most used by U.S. citizens.
